ABSTRACT
Oral mucositis is one of the most common complications observed in radiation and/or chemotherapy for cancer. The appearance of oral mucositis is caused by damage to cells and tissues by radiation exposure or the action of high doses of cytostatic drugs, which is accompanied by pain in the oral cavity, a violation of taste, the appearance of ulcers and erosions on the mucous membrane.
The aim of the study is to determine the significance of the experiment in order to study methods of prevention and treatment of oral mucositis.
Objects and methods. A retrospective analysis of scientific research, including the development of an experimental model of oral mucositis on PubMed, SemanticScholar and Scopus databases.
Results and discussion. Today, methods of prevention and treatment of oral mucositis are not standardized and none of the existing methods is not recognized as sufficiently effective.
Conclusion. Treatment and prevention of oral mucositis require careful further study in order to improve existing methods and develop new ones. The significance of the experiment in the conditions of scientific research is reflected; the existing experimental models of oral mucositis, which can be used for its further study, are presented and described.
Keywords: oral mucositis, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, experiment
