ABSTRACT
Examination of the children’s oral cavity provides important diagnostic indicators of developmental disorders, formation of hard and soft tissues, the presence of infectious and inflammatory diseases. Studies analyzing the oral diseases prevalence are mainly associated with patients over eighteen years old. In this case, the epidemiological picture looks scattered in each studied population. In the world literature, there is not enough statistical data on the prevalence and frequency of occurrence of this pathology in childhood.
The aim of the study. Conduct an analytical review of the literature about diseases of the children’s oral mucosa prevalence and establish the features of epidemiological data on these diseases.
Objects and methods. For the analysis, we selected scientific articles focus on the children’s oral mucosa diseases prevalence for the period 1984–2021. The sources were searched using the bibliographic databases PubMed, MedLine, Scopus, the Republican Scientific Medical Library, and the Google search engine.
Results and discussion. A detailed analysis of domestic and foreign scientific literature has shown a high level of the children’s oral mucosa diseases prevalence. Which ranges from 4.1% (United States of America) to 54% (Uruguay). The most common disease is geographic tongue. Then, traumatic injuries of oral mucosa, fungal stomatitis (candidiasis), papillary gingivostomatitis, recurrent herpetic stomatitis.
Conclusion. This study showed the necessity to create unified databases of the children’s oral mucosa diseases prevalence, which will help to adjust prevention methods, treatment strategies and reduce recurrences.
