Anatomical and functional state of maxillofacial system in patients with malocclusion class II

ABSTRACT
The aim of the study. To increase the efficiency of diagnosing the anatomical and functional state of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in patients aged 12-17 years with distal occlusion using proprietary methods.
Objects and methods. The article discusses the anatomical and functional state of maxillofacial system in patients 12-17 years old with malocclusion class II combined with sagittal incisive disocclusion in order to increase the efficiency of diagnosing the functional state of the temporomandibular joint. The study involved 57 patients who were divided into two age groups: M1 – 12-15 years old and M2 – 15-17 years old; two groups: the main group – 57 patients with malocclusion class II combined with sagittal incisal disocclusion, the control group – 26 patients with normal occlusion and no symptoms of the TMJ dysfunction.
Results and discussion. The examined patients aged 12-17 years with distal occlusion in combination with sagittal incisive disocclusion, had decrease in the amplitude of mouth opening and displacement of the lower jaw to the side in the frontal projection were established during the test of maximum lowering and raising the lower jaw with the maximum possible rectilinear movement in both age groups patients with distal occlusion in combination with sagittal incisor disocclusion suggests the presence of subluxation of the TMJ articular disc, as well as impaired coordination and symmetry in the work of the muscles that lift the lower jaw.
Conclusion. The results of study using the kinesiology of lower jaw of patients with malocclusion class II indicate a violation of coordination in the work of the muscles that raise and lower the lower jaw, as well as internal disorders in the temporomandibular joints.
