ABSTRACT
The stability of orthodontic treatment increases while maintaining the original transversal size of the dental arches in the canine area, especially in the lower jaw. The achievement of this goal is facilitated by the use of modern orthodontic equipment – the aligner system.
The aim of the study. To determine the most informative methods for measuring diagnostic models and tactics for treating narrowing of the lower dentition in the anterior region using an aligner system.
Objects and methods. The object of study is the shape of the lower dentition in the anterior region. The study was conducted on the basis of the Department of Orthodontics of the Belarusian State Medical University. 28 patients of both sexes in the age category of 18-35 years old were examined and accepted for treatment, with a narrowing of the dental arch in the anterior part of the lower jaw up to 7 mm. All patients were divided into 2 groups: group 1 – correction of the shape of the lower dental arch in the anterior region without increasing the intercanine distance; Group 2 – correction of the shape of the lower and upper dental arches in the anterior region with an increase in the intercanine distance.
Results and discussion. Treatment only on the lower dentition with the use of an aligner system is advisable to carry out with a shortage of space in the anterior part of the dental arch of no more than 5 mm, using interproximal separation, expansion of the intercanine and grinding of supercontacts after orthodontic treatment.
Conclusion. The success of stable orthodontic treatment of crowding of the anterior group of teeth in the lower jaw lies in maintaining the optimal individual width of the intercanine distance and controlling this parameter throughout the treatment. The achievement of this goal is facilitated by the use of modern orthodontic equipment – the aligner system.
Keywords: optimal shape of the dental arch, transversal index of intercanine distance (TIID), aligner system, system of transparent mouthguards
