Treatment of patients with chronic generalized complex periodontitis using occlusal guard

ABSTRACT
The effectiveness of treatment planning depends on the targeted choice of treatment method. The incidence of muscular dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint is about 45-65 % among the adult population; therefore, the introduction of occlusal splints is relevant.
The aim of the study. To improve the results of treatment of patients with chronic generalized complex periodontitis and TMJ dysfunction by including occlusal splints in the complex of treatment and preventive measures.
Objects and methods. 30 patients with periodontal diseases, according to indications, underwent complex treatment of periodontitis in accordance with clinical protocols using occlusal splints. The research methods were clinical-instrumental, functional, and radiation research methods.
Results and discussion. The results of clinical observation in patients showed a pronounced therapeutic effect of combined treatment with the use of occlusive splints, as evidenced by the parameters of objective tests.
Conclusion.  Analysis of clinical and functional research methods in patients with chronic generalized complex periodontitis in combination with TMJ dysfunction showed the advisability of including the use of occlusal splints in the complex of diagnostic and treatment measures.
