Efficacy of aceclofenac suspension for temporomandibular arthralgia in older adults

ABSTRACT
Drug treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) diseases remains relevant.
The aim of the study. Evaluation of the efficacy of aceclofenac suspension for temporomandibular arthralgia in older adults.
Objects and methods. In order to solve the realization of the set goal of the study, a clinical study was conducted, in which 36 (12 men and 24 women) aged from 61 to 79 years took part. Aceclofenac suspension was included in the treatment complex. Before the beginning and at the end of the study, the number of patients was assessed by conventional methods, taking into account the severity of temporomandibular joint pathology, as well as the severity of temporomandibular arthralgia according to the 10-point pain intensity rating scale.
Results and discussion. It was found that temporomandibular arthralgia was relieved in 75 % of cases on day 3-5 from the beginning of aceclofenac suspension administration. The effectiveness of treatment of the examined group of elderly and elderly patients suffering from temporomandibular osteoarthritis amounted to 84.02 % during 14 days of follow-up. The revealed insignificant difference in the severity of temporomandibular joint pathology and the degree of pain symptom severity before and after the study should be attributed to other symptoms of temporomandibular osteoarthritis, namely, mandibular deviation, as well as sound phenomena (crunching, clicking).
Conclusion.  In elderly and old patients suffering from temporomandibular osteoarthritis with pain symptom, the use of aceclofenac suspension is effective, namely the domestic powder Alental, which was used by patients to make the suspension on their own, and which elderly people used more readily than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in tablet form.
