Characteristics of women’s dental health in the postpartum period

ABSTRACT
The aim of the study. Study of dental status of women in the postpartum period to create effective programs for prevention and treatment of dental diseases.
Objects and methods. 200 women aged 20 to 45 years who visited a dentist 1 month after childbirth, who were surveyed on issues of prevention, commitment to individuality and anxiety, complex dental treatment with the determination of the DMF, OHI-S, API, PMA, BOP indices and an analysis of medical documentation.
Results and discussion. The survey demonstrated the structural level of women’s awareness of dental disease prevention, a low level of motivation and commitment to follow the doctor’s recommendations, and a high level of anxiety. The examination and questionnaire revealed a high prevalence of diseases of organic tissues and periodontium among these groups, as well as a tendency to develop progress during pregnancy and after childbirth.
Conclusion.  The obtained results provide the need for the creation and training of dental health education programs for women in the postpartum period in interdisciplinary collaboration with obstetricians-gynecologists and pediatricians.
