ABSTRACT
The aim of the study. To determine the features of diagnostics and treatment of patients with primary edentia complicated by malocclusion.
Objects and methods. 45 patients underwent orthodontic treatment using self-ligating passive Damon System 0.022 bracket systems before dental implants. Cone-beam computed tomography was used to evaluate bone tissue. All patients underwent a preparatory stage of treatment including oral hygiene measures with repeated assessment.
Results and discussion. The results of orthodontic treatment of patients in the two groups showed that all patients had a harmonious smile, profile, normal symmetrical shape, size, and relationship of the dental arches of the jaws, as well as multiple fissure-tubercular contacts between the antagonist teeth after the removal of fixed orthodontic appliances. After removing the orthodontic appliances, fixed retainers made of a braided orthodontic arch and composite material were fixed to the upper and lower jaws to ensure stability of the result and splinting of the teeth. All patients had good efficiency of orthodontic treatment using 6 Andrews keys of normal occlusion.
Conclusion.  The developed and clinically substantiated new complex of treatment and diagnostic measures for children and adults with primary adentia enables the dentist to significantly improve the aesthetic and functional condition of the patient’s dental system, reduce the risk of complications, and improve the efficiency of dental care in the Republic of Belarus. The use of modern diagnostic equipment and digital technologies contribute to competent planning and implementation of work in a team of medical specialists.
