ABSTRACT
In the Republic of Belarus, the rate of patients aged 6–18 years appealing medical care for complications of caries in permanent teeth with incomplete root formation is 6.5 %. Dentists’ approaches to treating these conditions vary, and a high percentage of surgical treatments, such as tooth extractions, is observed.
The aim of the study. To develop and scientifically substantiate a method for treating pulpitis and apical periodontitis in permanent teeth with incomplete root formation.
Objects and methods. We have developed a treatment method for pulpitis and apical periodontitis in permanent teeth with incomplete root formation. This method combines new approaches for medical treatment of root canals, their preliminary temporary obturation with water-based calcium hydroxide pastes, insertion, distribution and compaction of calcium-silicate materials into the apical portion of the root canals. The proposed method has been tested, and its effectiveness has been evaluated using clinical and radiographic criteria.
Results and discussion. An analysis of the proposed method confirms its high clinical efficacy (87.5–100.0 % according to the criteria used).
Conclusion. The cost-effectiveness of the proposed method is associated with minimizing the risk of tooth extraction and, consequently, the likelihood of expensive implantological and/or prosthodontic treatment.
