The effectiveness evaluation of professional oral hygiene complex among patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and chronic generalized periodontitis

ABSTRACT
The aim of the study. To evaluate the effectiveness of Vector-therapy in professional oral hygiene complex among patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and chronic generalized periodontitis.
Objects and methods. A dental examination of 100 patients with type 1 diabetes and chronic generalized periodontitis was performed, after which the subjects were divided into 2 groups. The first group underwent a professional oral hygiene complex, and the second group had the same, but in combination with Vector-therapy. Re-examination took place after 4 weeks.
Results and discussion. 1 month after the professional oral hygiene complex, a significant improvement in hygienic and periodontal state of oral cavity was observed in both groups, however, in the 2nd group, changes were more expressed. Inflammation of periodontal tissues decreased by an average of 9.6%, bleeding gums also decreased by an average of a third. The pH of oral liquid changed to alkaline side and began to amount to 6.98 units, which is close to a neutral environment.
Conclusion. It was revealed that the professional oral hygiene complex in combination with the Vectortherapy use, brings a significant improvement in periodontal status of patients with type 1 diabetes and chronic generalized periodontitis.
