Level of interleukins in oral fluid in traumatic fractures lower jaw

ABSTRACT
The aim of the study was to examine immunological indices (levels of oral fluid interleukins) in patients with traumatic fractures of the mandible.
Objects and methods. Group 1 included 61 persons aged 18-58 with diagnosis of traumatic fracture of the lower jaw. Data from healthy somatic and dental individuals were taken from the special literature and taken into account as group 2 (control). Measuring of the levels of interleukin -1ß (IL-1ß), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8) in oral fluid was performed using enzyme immunoassay, the result was expressed in pg/ml. The obtained data were subjected to statistical processing using the application software package “Statistica 10.0”.
Results and discussion. The results indicate that the level of IL-1ß in the oral fluid of group 1 was 14.15 (9.85-23.30), the level of IL-6 was 16.95 (7.05-85.00), the level of IL-8 was 1705.0 (690.0-1965.0). When comparing the indices of groups 1 and 2 according to the Kraskel-Wallis method, significant differences in the level of IL-6 z = 4.16 (H = 20.23, p = 0.00) and the level of IL-8 z = 3.32 (H = 11.82, p = 0.03) in oral fluid were revealed for multiple comparisons.
Conclusion. The presented material convincingly demonstrates that the profile of the level of interleukins in the oral fluid informatively shows the presence of traumatic damage of the lower jaw as well as the change in the homeostasis of the oral cavity in this disease and also characterizes its effect on the whole body. It provides the basis for the use of these indices in assessing the impact of certain negative factors of the oral cavity on the clinical course of traumatic jaw injury.
