ABSTRACT
When studying the quality of life of patients of a specialist, it is important to use specially created or modified questionnaires that will reflect the range of symptoms characteristic of the patient of this specialist.
The aim of the study. To develop a questionnaire to study the quality of life of a patient who sought help from an orthodontist, which would allow assessing the symptoms present in this category of patients, and would be simple and easy to use.
Objects and methods. The quality of life of 136 orthodontist patients was studied using a questionnaire using the OHIP-14-RU questionnaire and the new OHIP-16-ORTHO-BY questionnaire. Methods of descriptive statistics were used; the significance of differences in a sign was assessed by nonparametric methods using the Kruskal-Wallis (H) test, z test, and the χ2 test with Yates’ correction. The level of test-retest reliability and validity of the new questionnaire was determined using the Spearman correlation coefficient (ρ).
Results and discussion. The authors have developed a new questionnaire for studying the quality of life of orthodontist patients OHIP-16-ORTHO-BY. The Spearman correlation coefficient in the test-retest reliability study was 0.81 (p < 0.001) among all respondents, which confirms the high level of stability of the questionnaire to deviations associated with the time factor. A direct, moderately strong, statistically significant correlation (ρ = 0.65; p < 0.001) of the sum of points of each of the questionnaires was identified, which confirms the validity of the new questionnaire.
Conclusion. An assessment of the psychometric properties of the new OHIP-16-ORTHO-BY questionnaire showed its high reliability and validity. The questionnaire is convenient and easy to use; its analysis requires minimal time.
