ABSTRACT
Traumatic dental injuries of varying severity, accompanied by tooth fractures, constitute a special category in the morbidity structure of outpatient dental practices.
The aim of the study. To investigate complications arising during the treatment of teeth with root fractures.
Objects and methods. In accordance with the aim of the study, a visual assessment and analysis of the treatment quality of 65 vital teeth with root fractures were performed in 65 patients.
Results and discussion. The results of the clinical study of teeth with root fractures showed that in the late post–treatment periods, various complications were detected in 50.7 % (3.0) of patients: pathological tooth mobility, lack of fusion of fragments – 49.3 % (3.3) of teeth; pulp necrosis or apical periodontitis – 44.6 % (3.3); gum inflammation – 40.0 % (3.3); asymmetry between the cutting edges of the injured and symmetrical teeth after repositioning and splinting – 33.8 % (3.3); change in the color of the crown of the tooth – 29.2 % (2.3); transient pathological tooth resorption – 29.2 % (3.3); alveolar bone resorption (vestibular, interdental septa) – 12.3 % (3.1); complete extrusive dislocation of the crown of the tooth – 12.3 % (3.1).
Conclusion. Adherence to diagnostic principles for patients with acute dental trauma and understanding the causes of errors and complications during treatment of teeth with root fractures will enable the selection of the optimal treatment method, thereby minimizing the occurrence of complications in both the immediate and long–term follow–up periods and ensuring the preservation of teeth.
