Dental status of the patient in the acute period of myocardial infarction

ABSTRACT
The aim of the study. Development, assessment of the effectiveness of use and implementation the oral hygiene protocol for patients in the acute period of myocardial infarction.
Objects and methods. 97 patients in the acute period of myocardial infarction after revascularization of the infarct-associated artery underwent a dental examination. The individual level of oral hygiene was determined with the calculation of the RCOS-M-M index. Determination of the initial dental status showed that the RCOS-M index in each group was in the range of 38–40 points, which indicates a very high risk of developing chronic oral sepsis. The patients were divided into three groups depending on the hygiene products used. A master class was held with middle and junior medical personnel about the use of oral care products and oral care methods in intensive care units.
Results and discussion. After the development of an individual oral hygiene plan in all groups, there was a decrease in the RCOS-M index.
Conclusion. The effectiveness of the application of the oral care protocol for patients in the acute period of myocardial infarction proved the need for its implementation in cardiological practice as the first step in the program of comprehensive rehabilitation of patients with cardiovascular pathology.
