A new method for predicting the risk of inflammatory and destructive complications of dental implantation

ABSTRACT
The aim of the study is to develop and scientifically substantiate a new method for predicting the risk of inflammatory and destructive complications of dental implantation based on indicators of lipid peroxidation of oral fluid (the level of malondialdehyde content (MDC) and the level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity).
Objects and methods. 57 people aged 25 to 52 years were examined. Group 1 consisted of 42 people who have undergone the surgical stage of dental implantation, are being treated by an orthopedic dentist and are preparing for permanent fixation of fixed orthopedic structures based on dental implants. Group 2 (control) included 15 people who did not undergo dental implantation. They were examined once. A new method of predicting the risk of inflammatory and destructive complications during dental implantation was applied to all patients based on the advance of the indicators of POL (the level of MDA content and the level of SOD activity) of the oral fluid. The obtained data were processed statistically.
Results and discussion. . The identified 15% (6) of people at risk of complications in the first study of the level of MDA and 17% (7) of people in the first study of the level of SOD activity were present in the group of people with possible development of inflammatory and destructive processes and in subsequent studies. With further observations, an inflammatory-destructive complication was verified in 12% (5) people, which in 83% coincided with the results obtained when determining the risk according to the level of MDA content and in 71% – according to the level of SOD activity.
Conclusion. The proposed method of predicting the risk of inflammatory and destructive complications of dental implantation based on indicators of lipid peroxidation of oral fluid (the level of MDA content and the level of SOD activity) can be recommended for wider implementation in practical use, as it will allow timely adjustment of the plan of medical rehabilitation of patients with adentia, which will help reduce the number of complications and improve the quality of care dental care for the general population.
