Index of prognosis of dentin sensitivity in dental patients

ABSTRACT
The aim of the study. The development of a clinical index for predicting dentin sensitivity (DS) in dental patients.
Objects and methods. The main predisposing factors for the occurrence and development of dentin sensitivity in patients with periodontal diseases have been identified. The study included 65 dental patients with DS, who were divided into two groups. Diagnosis and treatment of patients was carried out in accordance with clinical protocols approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. The control group consisted of 30 practically healthy patients. Clinical parameters were assessed before treatment, after 1 week, and 1-6-12 months. The effectiveness of treatment was assessed based on the number of good, satisfactory and unsatisfactory treatment results in each group.
Results and discussion. The results of clinical observation of patients showed that the use of the DS prognosis index makes it possible not only to clearly inform patients about the level of risk of developing DS, but also to monitor prognostic signs constantly, which increases the effectiveness of treatment by 35 %.
Conclusion. Good treatment results in 83 % of cases in long-term follow-up determine the feasibility of including the prognosis index that we developed in the complex treatment of DS of dental patients.
