ABSTRACT
Analysis of the dentoalveolar anomaly prevalence among child population in the Republic of Belarus allows determining the level of need for orthodontic treatment, evaluating the effectiveness of preventive measures and calculating the amount of required orthodontic care in various regions of the country.
The aim of study. To estimate the prevalence of dentoalveolar anomalies and deformities among children of the Brest region sought for dental care.
Objects and methods. The data analysis of 454 ambulance cards of pediatric patients applied for orthodontic treatment in Brest and Brest region health facilities was conducted. The following data were recorded in a card specially designed for the study: patient’s age, characteristics and relationship of dental arches in the sagittal, vertical and transverse planes, the size of the sagittal gap, the size of the vertical incisal disocclusion, characteristics of the position and number of teeth.
Results and discussion. The anomalies of tooth position in children aged 6–17 years are observed in most cases (85,02 %). Tooth dispositions in most clinical situations are associated with the shortening and narrowing of the dental arches. The most common anomalies of the relationship of dental arches in pediatric patients are the following: distal occlusion (42,29 %) and deep bite (24,67 %).
Conclusions. The high prevalence of dentoalveolar anomalies and deformities in the population of the Brest region aged 6–17 years determines the necessity of the improvement of orthodontic care comprehensive program.
