Features of interdisciplinary dental collaboration for treating of primary edentia lateral incisors

ABSTRACT
Aim of the study is to determine the efficiency of interdisciplinary dental collaboration for treating congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors by means of orthodontic treatment and dental implantation.
Objects and methods. The objects of the research were 24 patients with primary edentia maxillary lateral incisors. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and a software for dental implantation were used for evaluating the bone tissue in the interradicular area of the adjacent teeth and the expected implant. A computer surgical template was applied as a link between the CBCT-generated treatment plan and the surgical operation for accurate transferring the interactive surgical plan of replacing
congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors. All patients before dental implantation performed orthodontic treatment lasting from 1 to 1.5 years, using passive self-ligating braces Damon System 0.022.
Results and discussion. The deviation of the actual axis of the implant from the planned one varied within 10°–56° in patients of the first group. The mean deviation from the axis was 27.21 ± 4.7° in patients of the first group who received dental implantation by the traditional method without using surgical templates. The mean deviation of the implant axis from the planned one was 0.98 ± 0.05° in patients of the second group treated with digital planning and placement of dental implants using surgical templates. The deviation of the actual axis of the implant from the planned one ranged from 0 to 3° in patients of the second group.
Conclusions. The new complex of interdisciplinary treatment measures with the inclusion of orthodontic treatment, digital planning and navigation implantation, orthopedic treatment exceeds the efficiency of traditional treatment also reduce the risk of complications.
